How exercise helps sleep is by increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood. Oxygen is necessary in order to sleep.

Some people suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, where not enough oxygen is allowed into the body, thereby interrupting sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea in some cases is due to a person being overweight. Because of extra fat in and around the neck, oxygen has difficulty entering and moving freely through the body. It is well known that exercise is a proven method of weight loss. Once the weight is reduced through exercise, this form of sleep apnea can be eliminated, and the individual will once again experience a good nights sleep.

Exercise also helps to tire a person out. This may sound too simple, however, a sedentary person may not feel tired quite as quickly, although their body has the same requirement for sleep as does the body of a very active person.

Many people who suffer with insomnia, do so as the result of depression. Exercise causes the release of endorphins into the body. These endorphins create a feeling of well-being, even euphoria. This is an excellent means of combating depression and getting a good night sleep.

Exercise also helps to release much-needed serotonin into the body. Serotonin helps in regulating sleep patterns. That is, it sort of regulates your internal clock. It also helps in combating depression, as well as many forms of mental illness.

Many people find it very difficult getting to sleep when they are under stress. Exercise is very effective in reducing stress levels.

Exercise creates a wealth of good health in your body. You definitely should strive to get exercise every day. You will look better feel better and you will sleep better.
