A Start on How to Control Your Dreams

Are you interested in lucid dreaming? Of course you are. You’re interested in lucid dreaming because maybe, just maybe, you’re tired of waking up in the middle of that great one where Jessica Alba tells you you’re the single best lover she’s ever had; or maybe the one about the President calling for your advice about your idea to build an everlasting cotton-candy machine to rebuild the economy. Maybe you’re actually interested in just the ways some of your recurring dreams actually end. In any of those cases, the process of learning how to control your dreams, an advanced step in the process known as lucid dreaming, is a skill that anyone can attain given the right amount of effort and technique.
The basic steps toward controlling your dreams is relatively simple, but the techniques toward achieving each step can take some time and practice. Here is the basic path toward learning how to control your dreams:
Before you can control your dreams, you have to be able to tell whether you are dreaming or not within the moment of the event. In order to do that, however, first you have to be able to retroactively recall the dream that you have. Being able to recall your dreams clearly and prcisely helps you in the future. So at first, it’s best that you keep a dream journal of some kind (usually near your bed, so that you can jot down the dreams you can upon waking.)
Once you can actively and readily recall your dreams once they’ve happened, the next step is being able to recognize when you are in the middle of a dream state. The reason that recording dreams is a step before this is that, eventually, you should be able to more readily recognize dream elements. Once aware that your are dreaming, yo8u’re that much closer to being able to control your actions within those dreams.
