Sleep Problem Solutions - Get the Help You Need
Posted by admin in Prescription Sleep Medicine on July 06th, 2009
There are many sleep problem solutions floating around out there but how can you be sure what works and what doesn’t? A lot of it can depend on your body and what type of sleeping issue you’re having. Here are a few basics to consider when approaching your sleeping problem.
The first thing to ask yourself is: What’s keeping you up at night? Is it a noise issue - traffic outside your window, snoring from a partner, pesky birds singing away, and so on. Once you’ve established what noise is bothering you, you can go about finding a solution.
If noise isn’t the issue, then what else could it be? Perhaps your bed is too firm, or too soft? Investing in a quality mattress set is very important because you will spend most of your life in bed (hopefully) asleep.
You could also be one of millions of people affected by a sleep disorder. While it’s important to see a doctor if you think this is the case, more often than not you will be prescribed sleeping pills as a solution. Sleeping pills aren’t the best solution for many reasons, one being that they don’t help you get thorough sleep. They also will leave you tired throughout the day and instead of addressing the root cause of your issue, will simply mask it instead.
A better sleeping option to use while you’re sorting out your issues, is melatonin. Melatonin is a chemical found in your brain that regulates your body’s sleep schedule. Melatonin is produced when your body senses it’s dark out, and naturally suppressed during the daylight hours. Taking a melatonin supplement before going to be can help your body get the sleep it needs.
