Snoring and Sleep Apnea - My Story May Help You Stop Both
Posted by admin in Prescription Sleep Medicine on November 06th, 2009
I used to snore very heavily. At a point my snoring became so serious that it was threatening my relationship and health. When I went to see a physician about it eventually, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. This, incidentally, was a more serious sleep disorder that can cause excessive sleepiness during the day; precisely what I had been suffering from. Another problem that I suddenly found now was that this kind of sleeping disorder was associated with several heart disorders that people suffer from.
Worse, the condition causes oxygen deprivation in the brain, and is also worsened by it. Furthermore, it results in accumulation of acid in the blood, and increased pressure on the brain stem. Other problems linked to sleep apnea include heartbeat irregularities, high blood pressure, and decreased contractile force of the heart muscle. It has also been linked to some cases of sudden infant death syndrome.
The problems and cures for sleep apnea were however as simple as you can imagine. If it is caused by obstruction of the airway, what you need is to remove the obstruction, probably by surgery; if it is due to some abnormality in the part of the brain that controls respiration, you may have to live with stop snoring devices for the rest of your life. However if obesity is the reason why you have sleep apnea, your cure for the condition would to lose weight through diet and exercise. This also works to quit snoring, considerably.
Mine was the weight, so I started to lose weight. I am still on the program to lose weight and I still snore. But I’m told it’s getting better.
