Sleeping Disorders - How to Become Snore-Free
Posted by admin in Prescription Sleep Medicine on August 27th, 2010
Many of us suffer from sleeping disorders. Some people walk in their sleep, somnambulism, some talk and the most common of all the problems is snoring. According to a survey, about 71% people snore while sleeping. Snoring not only makes the snorer uncomfortable, but also the people sleeping around that person also helplessly become victims. At times, the snoring becomes so excessive that it might even disturb people sleeping in the adjacent rooms. Often, the sufferers are laughed at and not taken too seriously. However, this is because most of us are unaware of the sleeping disorder called sleep apnea. This disorder can be identified if there are frequent pauses in the breathing when you are snoring.
There are 3 types of disorders - obstructive, central and mixed. Of these three the most commonly seen is the obstructive sleep apnea. It is the result of an over relaxation of the throat muscles which causes the windpipe to collapse resulting in the blockage of air. When the sleeper’s airway is narrowed, the soft tissues of the airway collapses and touch each other due to the suction that is created. As we continue to breathe, these tissues vibrate, and as they touch each other a sound is created. This is what we hear and is called as snoring. However, it can also be due to mild blockage which need not be taken too seriously. But when it becomes excessive it should be brought to the attention of the person snoring. Snoring can be due to tonsils, infections, alcohol and cigarette use or some medications that can dry out the airways.
Treatment of sleep apnea is now available as medication and even surgery. About 60% of the snorers snore when they are sleeping on their backs. Sleep with pillows that help to cradle the head and also elongates the neck so that the tongue does not block the airway and therefore help reduce snoring.
There are many snoring cures like the snoring mouthpiece available which can be used for treating snoring which has not reached a higher level. There are two inclined surfaces that make up the primary sleeping surface and along with it a low flat surface in the center.

Think about the answers you find and see what is going on, as you could have some sleeping disorders that stop you from actually being able to fall asleep at night. Possibly you have the habit of remembering some bad experiences you have had in your past, something that happened long time ago or maybe you keep thinking at the things you have to do tomorrow instead of enjoying your sleep. Any of these can keep you awake at night and you should just stop thinking about them and sleep.
Tip no.1
Some of the advices on how to fall asleep fast include being firm about it and struggling to fall asleep and not letting your mind think at something else. Just try to empty your entire mind and to think only at the color white and imagine that all around you all is white. You are in a white room, with nothing else it. This is your mind. An empty room that is very at ease and relaxed.
Tip no.2
Something else that you can try is to keep distractions away such as looking at the TV or something similar, as this will keep you awake more than normal. Instead, you can always read a good book or a even a really boring book because they will put you to sleep in no time at all. Be sure to not have magazines near the bed because they will prevent you from sleeping.
Tip no.3
Pretending you are very sleepy could make you actually feel sleepy if you struggle a bit. At first you probably won’t be sleepy at all, but if you give your best and think of sleepy things, then, eventually, you will feel sleepy and fall asleep. The more you do it the better you will become at this.
Tip no.4
The old trick of counting sheep or who knows what could be good remedies, so try them even if you are a bit cynical about it. If it gets results then keep doing it as your sleep will get better.
Tip no.5
Imagine that you are doing a thing that helps you to feel good and remember this feeling and don’t think of anything else. If you do all of this the right way and for over a week it can make you feel that all the stress is gone and that you feel sleepy more often.
In the first lines of this short article you were asking yourself how some folks just fall asleep so incredibly fast while you can’t do it at all. Sleep Deeply Without Pills, Take Back Control Of Your Life And Restore Your Ability To Live Life To Its Fullest!
Do you have problems falling asleep? Do you wake up during the night? Are you unable to fall back asleep, wake up too early, or wake up feeling tired? If the answer is yes to any of those questions, you are suffering from insomnia, sleeping problems, or sleeping disorders.
Sleep is important for your mental and physical well-being. When you’re not getting enough sleep or are not sleeping soundly or deep enough, you get tired, depressed, and become irritable. You may feel like you’re brain isn’t functioning. And you may have trouble concentrating on your work and daily activities.
The many causes of sleeping problems, sleeping disorders, and insomnia include physical problems, illness, pain, depression, stress, anxiety, caffeine, worry, and your brain being too active when going to sleep. Insomnia, the inability to get enough adequate sleep, is a common sleeping disorder that affects both males and females, although studies have found that women are more likely to suffer from insomnia than men. For some people, curing insomnia may require life style changes but it is well worth it. The quality of your life will improve if you know how to get rid of insomnia.
There are many possible causes for insomnia. You should always try to figure out the cause, so you can fix the cause rather than the symptom, in this case insomnia. If your insomnia is caused by your life style, your best solution is to change your life style.
Things you should try avoid in order to cure insomnia are:
Don’t rely on sleeping pills or other drugs. They are no long term solution and many of them have negative side effects. Note, never stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor first.
No caffeine or alcohol in evening and limit your daily consumption. The former will make it more difficult to fall asleep while the latter will prevent you from getting the quality sleep you need.
No heavy meals in the evening. If your body is busy digesting food, you will not get the deep sleep needed to feel refreshed.
Don’t let the clock decide when you go to bed. If you are not tired, do not go to bed. Read a book or listen to some peaceful music until you are feeling sleepy.
Don’t worry about what may happen tomorrow. Decide to worry about the future tomorrow. And you can’t change the past, so don’t be upset about what happened during the day.
Don’t sleep during the day. If you sleep during the day, you will have trouble falling asleep in the evening. If you feel tired during the day, go for a walk and get some fresh air.
Things you should do to cure your insomnia are:
Exercise, if possible on a daily basis. It can be as simple as a 30 minute brisk walk. Also, avoid heavy exercises late in the evening. Your body needs time to cool down afterwards.
Make sure that you have a good sleeping environment. Your bedroom should have a comfortable bed and be cool, dark and quit.
Create your own bedtime procedure. You need to cool down and start relaxing before going to bed, you may want to try a simple relaxation exercise. By doing the same procedure every evening you program your brain to start cooling down.
Listen to special audio CDs that will tell your brain to slow down. You can re-program your brain and teach it to prepare for sleep.
Now there is a better and permanent solution for insomnia that will help you fall asleep in minutes and sleep soundly without using pills.
